In the Beginning…

I began painting in 2006 with a watercolor workshop by Eric Wiegardt, who opened my eyes to a whole new way of seeing!  I have also been inspired by Mick McAndrews, through the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts Yellow Springs Studio.  I continue learning from both of these renowned artists.

Personal Background…

Until 2006, education and the law were my passion.  My career began as a middle school teacher and then as a lawyer, working with state departments of education (Oregon and Connecticut), public schools (Vancouver School District); and teaching school law at two universities (University of Oregon and Washington State University Vancouver). Retired, I now have time to immerse myself in painting, here on the beautiful Long Beach Peninsula, and in Europe.

Why and what I paint…

I paint to give life perspective, which was especially important during the time of the Pandemic isolation. I may not be able to bring about world health and peace, but hopefully I can bring a moment of joy and wonderment through my painting. Boats, ships and water always attract my brush. Living mostly on the Long Beach peninsula, seascapes are readily available subjects,  but I love city scapes and European villages as well.

Connectedness…

I appreciate the camaraderie and inspiration of the Society of Washington Artists, and the Peninsula Art Association.  My paintings are often on display in the public libraries, Ocean Beach Hospital, and South Pacific County Courthouse on the Long Beach Peninsula.  Check the Journal section of this website to see where I’m currently showing.
